Open Society Initiative of Southern Africa (OSISA)

The Pan-African Parliament, also known as the African Parliament, is the legislative body of the African Union. At present it exercises oversight, and has advisory and consultative powers, which will last for the first five years of its existence, after that time period it will exercise full legislative powers. Its 230 Parliamentary representatives are elected by the legislatures of the 46 AU states rather than being directly elected in their own capacity. The Committee on Education, Culture, Tourism and Human Resources functions are to (i) consider issues relating to the development of human resources in Member States; and (ii) To assist Parliament to promote policy development and implementation of programmes of the Union relating to access to education, promotion and preservation of culture and tourism and human resource development.
