Annual human rights film festival in Botswana

By Richard Lee | April 07th, 2014

If you are in Botswana between the 9th and 16th of April and enjoy documentaries and are interested in human rights than you should definitely go along to the DITSHWANELO annual human rights film festival.

Taking place at the AV Centre, Maru a Pula School in Gaborone, this is the 14th festival and features a host of fascinating films from ‘Poor Us: An Animated History’ of poverty to ‘Blood in the Mobile’ about DRC conflict minerals and cellphones to ‘Beatrice Mtetwa and the Rule of Law’ about the life and ideals of one of Zimbabwe’s premiere human rights advocates.

And there is a lot more.

Divided into daily themes – such as Globalisation and Human Rights, Youth and Social Change, Zimbabwe and Social Justice, Human Trafficking, and the Right to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity – the festival has something for everyone.

Tickets are just 30 pula – and entry is free for students.

So have a look at the attached programme of films, debates and discussions – and take part in one of Botswana’s most important human rights events.
