TuNa Bakonzi brings freedom of Information to the DRC

The Alaveteli Platform conducted an interview with Henri Christi from Collectif24, an organisation promoting access to, and freedom of information in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Collectif24, under Christi’s leadership, spearheaded the establishment of TuNa Bakonzi, a Freedom of Information site, TuNa Bakonzi, which recently launched in the DRC.
In the interview, Christi explains that in a country such as the DRC, where there have been efforts to decentralise politics, there have been less efforts directed at advancing access to information at a local government levels. Hence, the TuNa Bakonzi platform aims to facilitate easy access to information that can enhance active citizenship, promote transparency and accountability in addition to strengthening democracy in the DRC.
“This service will promote accountability and give citizens control in the fight against corruption. In a country where there are no public policies on internet governance and journalists are regularly exposed to false information, it will also allow requests for information directly from the source,” Christi says.
